Generally, bathrooms require the installation of floor drains to facilitate drainage, but this can lead to a series of problems. For example, many people lose hair while washing their hair, which can clog the drain. Is there a good way to address the issue of floor drains being blocked by hair?
Preventing and Fixing Hair Clogs in Your Bathroom Drain
1. If the bathroom floor drain is clogged with hair, the first step is to clean the surface dirt and remove any visible hair. For internal debris, you can unscrew the drain cover.
2. Next, mix baking soda and vinegar evenly and pour it into the drain. This can effectively address the clog issue. Alternatively, you can purchase a drain cleaner from a supermarket, which is a solution specifically designed for clearing pipes. Be sure to check the product’s composition to see if it is acidic, alkaline, or neutral.
3. Additionally, you can prepare a small piece of wire, bend it into a hook, and insert it into the drain to catch and remove any hair inside. Generally, cleaning up the hair near the drain should help resolve the clogging issue.
Prevention strategies for blocked bathroom drains
1. Prevention is the fundamental solution. During installation, ensure that the drain is slightly lower than the floor surface, typically around 10 mm. Additionally, the installed drain should have a water seal, usually a height of at least 50 mm.
2. While installing the drain, make sure there is a barrier to prevent water flow, with the size of the drainage openings around 8 mm. This will effectively block hair and debris from entering the drain and help prevent clogging.
3. Another preventive measure is to place a stocking over the drain. After taking a shower, any hair or debris will collect in the stocking, which can then be disposed of, preventing it from entering the drainage system and avoiding clogs. After each shower, remember to pick up any fallen hair, and avoid rinsing it directly down the drain.
In summary:if a bathroom floor drain is clogged with hair, it is relatively easy to fix. However, preventing such issues is equally important, as they can appear quite unpleasant. Regular preventive measures are essential.
