When renovating a bathroom, most homeowners opt for a dry-wet separation design. However, some homeowners discover after the renovation that the dry area of the bathroom lacks a floor drain, preventing water in the dry area from being drained properly. So, what can be done if the floor drain in the dry area was forgotten? Below, I will briefly introduce the remedial methods for this situation.
How to Remedy the Situation When a Drain is Missing in a Dry Area
1. Reinstall the floor drain. If the bathroom has a reserved position for the installation of a floor drain in the dry area but it was forgotten, you can break the tiles at the location of the floor drain, locate the drainage pipe, reinstall the floor drain, and then re-tile the area. When laying the tiles, ensure that they are sloped towards the floor drain.
2. If there is no reserved drainage pipe for a floor drain in the dry area and only one floor drain exists in the wet area, you can utilize the existing floor drain to add one in the dry area. First, determine the location of the dry area's floor drain, then draw lines connecting the dry area and wet area drains. Use tools to cut along these lines and remove the leveling layer of the floor. Next, ensure proper waterproofing in the opened area, and once the waterproofing is dry, connect a three-way pipe to the existing drainage pipe and extend it to the dry area drain. Finally, use cement mortar for filling and securing the area, then re-tile.
3. If the shower area is lower and has a depression, while the water barrier is level with the dry area's floor, you may consider installing holes in the water barrier to allow water from the dry area to drain through the wet area's floor drain. However, when using this method, make sure the drainage holes are at the highest point of the wet area and the lowest point of the dry area. If the dry and wet areas are level and the water barrier is higher than the floor, this method cannot be applied.
