Dripping Faucet? Here’s How to Fix It Easily

28/02/2025 | Hawkrown

Every household relies on faucets for water usage, and frequent use can lead to various issues. For instance, some users report that their faucets are leaking continuously, which not only wastes water and money over time but is also detrimental to the environment. Hiring a repair technician can be quite expensive, while handling repairs on your own may seem daunting. Don’t worry! Here are some simple methods to address dripping faucets.

Stop That Drip! Effective Solutions for a Leaky Faucet

First, if water continues to flow after shutting off the valve stem, it is likely due to the inner spindle washer becoming worn over time. In this case, replacing the washer will suffice. Method: Use a pipe wrench to rotate and unscrew the cap, then remove it and replace the worn spindle washer with a new one.

Second, if water is leaking around the valve stem, it may be due to the valve stem itself being loose or misaligned. The fix is straightforward: simply remove the valve stem and reinstall it correctly.

Third, if water is leaking from the gap under the faucet handle, this is typically caused by a worn sealing ring inside the cap. You can resolve this by unscrewing the screws, removing the handle and cap, and replacing the worn sealing ring with a new one.

Fourth, if water is leaking at the connection of the supply pipe, this is generally due to a loose cap nut. Simply tighten the cap nut or replace it with a new U-shaped sealing ring. If water pressure is normal and leaking continues, it could be a clogged filter in the faucet; in this case, you can remove the filter, clean it, and reinstall it.

In conclusion, these are simple methods to deal with leaking faucets. When repairing the faucet, be careful not to bump it against hard objects, and avoid leaving any cement or glue remnants on its surface. Make sure to clear any debris from inside the pipe before reinstalling the faucet. Additionally, during regular use, try not to turn the faucet on and off too forcefully; a gentle twist is sufficient. Also, do not use the faucet as a handhold or support!
