Nowadays, there are more and more home water appliances, and the frequency of faucet use is quite high. However, over time, the connection points of the faucet can easily break, leaving parts stuck in the pipes. So, what should you do if the faucet breaks? How can you remove it? How to replace the faucet? Let’s take a look together.
I. How to Handle a Broken Faucet
1. If the faucet breaks inside the wall pipe, you can use a small saw blade to cut the pipe threads into several small sections, and then use a screwdriver and a hammer to gently chisel from the outside inward to break it off, allowing you to remove the faucet. Note: Since the faucet connection is usually made of copper and is quite hard, be careful not to cut too deep when using the saw, as this could damage the threads on the inner wall of the T-joint.
2. If the faucet breaks at the T-joint, you can use a heat gun to melt away the old T-joint pipe, and then install a new faucet. If you hire a professional, it should cost around a hundred yuan.
3. Another simple method is to buy a broken screw extractor from an online store or a hardware store. Insert the extractor's spiral into the broken faucet’s threads, then turn the wrench or pliers to grip the outer edge of the extractor while turning it clockwise to screw it in, and then counterclockwise to pull it out.
II. How to Replace a Faucet
1. Prepare the necessary tools: wrench, pliers, sealing tape, etc.
2. If the faucet is rusted, avoid using excessive force, as this may break the internal threads and leave them stuck in the pipe. Instead, drip some machine oil at the base of the faucet and then use the wrench to turn it; this will make it much easier.
3. When installing the new faucet, first wrap several layers of sealing tape clockwise, then use your left hand to hold the faucet, insert it into the threaded hole, and tighten it. This will ensure a better sealing effect and prevent leaks. It's advisable to buy a fully copper faucet as it is more durable and resistant to rust.
Conclusion: The disassembly and installation methods for different faucets may vary slightly, so you can try the above approaches. If you still can't manage it, it is recommended to seek help from a professional technician.
