Broken Faucet? Here’s What You Need to Know

28/02/2025 | Hawkrown

Faucets are prone to rusting with prolonged use, which can lead to water quality issues. Many friends contemplate replacing the faucet themselves, but inadvertently, they may apply too much force and end up breaking the faucet, leaving it stuck in the pipeline. This can be quite an awkward situation, as no matter how hard you try, you can't get it out. What should you do if the faucet breaks? An experienced technician has shared a few tips that I will share with you now.

1. Faucet Extraction Tool

Nowadays, there is a specialized tool for extracting broken faucets called a faucet extraction tool. It is made from high-carbon steel and undergoes overall heat treatment. The tool features many fine-toothed threads that facilitate the removal of stripped screws. Insert the extraction tool into the broken pipe, then grip it with a wrench or an adjustable spanner and rotate it clockwise steadily. After a few turns, you should be able to easily extract the broken threads from the pipe. This tool is an essential item for every household.

2. Use a Hacksaw Blade to Cut the Faucet

Take a small hacksaw blade and cut a small section of the broken part stuck in the pipeline. Be careful not to cut too deep, as this could damage the threading of the joint. Use the blade to pry out the cut segment, which will loosen the two parts. Finally, use a pair of small pliers to grasp and remove the remaining section. Clean the area and then install the new faucet.

Replacing the Faucet

Use both hands to hold two wrenches and remove the old faucet (be careful to turn the wrench in the correct direction while disassembling). Next, loosen the screw of the old faucet and take it off with the wrench. Take a piece of tape and wrap it around the threads of the new faucet about 5-6 times to prevent leaks caused by a loose connection. Then, install the new faucet onto the old connection, turning it with the wrench to ensure it is level, making it easier to use the faucet.

Conclusion: The above text provides recommendations on how to handle a broken faucet and how to replace it. If you encounter a situation where a faucet breaks in your home in the future, consider trying the methods mentioned above to resolve the issue.
