When installing floor drains, we may encounter various issues. What is the recommended distance between the floor drain and the drainage pipe?

Recommended Distance Between Floor Drain and Drainage Pipe

Generally, it is advisable to maintain a distance of 3 to 5 centimeters. This way, once the floor drain is installed, there is no need for further treatment of the pipe. You can directly use cement to smooth it out twice to form a natural pipe shape, which will help prevent water seepage and ensure the integrity of the floor drain. It is also convenient during the actual construction and will prolong its service life.

What Are the Key Points to Note When Installing a Floor Drain?

1. When installing the floor drain, ensure it is level and leak-proof, and place it at the lowest point of the floor, with the surrounding surface about 5 millimeters higher than the drain.

2. The water seal depth of the floor drain should not be less than 50 millimeters, and the installation location must be appropriate. Additionally, the outer layer should have anti-corrosion measures in place to ensure it functions properly.

3. The diameter of the drainage hole in the floor drain should be maintained between 6 to 8 millimeters to prevent hair, sand, and similar debris from entering and causing blockages.

4. After construction, fill the gaps around the floor drain with silicone or adhesive to prevent odors from escaping, which can affect indoor air quality.

5. During the acceptance check of the floor drain, pour some water inside to check for blockages and to help seal in odors.

6. Choose an appropriate floor drain based on the diameter of the drainage pipe; typically, it is a 50-millimeter PVC pipe, but if it is made of cast iron, it may be larger. Most newly constructed properties have larger drainage openings, so you should adjust the drainage opening based on the size of the floor drain before purchasing one.

In summary:the recommended distance between the floor drain and the drainage pipe should be kept at 3 to 5 centimeters. This makes construction more convenient, and when selecting a floor drain, care should be taken to ensure proper fit. I hope this information is helpful to everyone.
