Toilet is an essential sanitary fixture in the bathroom, and over time, it may get damaged and needs to be replaced. So, how to disassemble a toilet? Let's take a look.
How to disassemble a toilet:
1、Prepare for Safety
Before disassembling, it's important to prepare the necessary tools and take safety precautions, such as having screwdrivers and wrenches ready. If there are cracks on the surface of the toilet, be sure to wear gloves to prevent cuts while lifting the toilet. Many toilets are made of ceramic, and if the surface has cracks, it can cut like glass, so wearing gloves is essential.
2、Remove the Tank Lid
Next, start by removing the lid from the tank. Before doing this, make sure to turn off the water supply valve, which is usually located at the back or left side of the toilet. After removing the tank lid, place it in a safe spot so that it's easy to find if you need to reinstall it later.
3、Drain the Tank Water
After taking off the tank lid, drain all the water from the tank by pressing the flush button to allow the water to flow out completely. If there is still some water left in the tank, you can use a sponge or towel to soak it up or scoop it out with a small cup.
4、Disconnect the Water Pipe
Next, disconnect the water pipe connected at the back of the toilet, making sure to pour out any remaining water from the pipe. If there are screws installed at the back of the toilet, remove those bolts first to loosen the toilet for easier disassembly.
5、Cut the Sealant
Finally, use a scraper to cut the sealant under the toilet. Gently rock the toilet to loosen the sealant underneath. If you find it difficult to lift the toilet by yourself, it’s advisable to ask someone for help. Once the toilet is disassembled, place it in a spacious area to avoid obstructing your work. If the toilet still needs to be used, be sure to protect it by placing a cloth or foam pad underneath to prevent any marks, and use a cloth to block the drain to prevent odors from escaping into the air.
In summary:The above is a guide on how to disassemble a toilet. It is advisable to seek help from a professional if you lack experience, as disassembling it by yourself may be quite challenging.
