When installing a floor drain, adhesive is needed for bonding. Here’s a detailed guide on what adhesive will provide a more secure bond.
What adhesive is better for bonding the floor drain?
For installing a floor drain, using specialized PVC adhesive is recommended as it provides a very strong bond. This type of PVC glue is particularly suitable for bonding floor drains, resulting in a high connection strength and an excellent sealing effect. Additionally, PVC adhesive is environmentally friendly, and it has both high-temperature and low-temperature resistance, making it suitable for various environments.
When applying the adhesive, first ensure the floor drain is properly installed and fixed. If there are gaps around the edge of the drain, apply the PVC adhesive there, making sure it does not come into contact with water. Once it has fully cured, it will provide a sealing effect.
If PVC adhesive is unavailable, water cement mortar can also be used for sealing. This option can provide a good sealing effect, but it may not look as attractive, so surrounding decoration, such as tiling, can be added.
What types of floor drains are available?
There are several styles of floor drains. For instance, one type utilizes a magnetic mechanism, which is widely used. This drain opens downward to allow for water drainage and will close when the magnetic force is less than that of the magnet.
Another type is the spring-loaded drain. When the weight of water within the drain exceeds the spring's tension, it creates pressure that opens the sealing pad for automatic drainage.
There is also a silicone-type floor drain, where the silicone at the bottom opens when water flows through, and then it automatically closes once drainage is complete, ensuring sealing and odor prevention.
How should consumers choose a floor drain?
The main purpose of a floor drain is to prevent odors, so sealing performance is critical. If a high drainage volume is anticipated, choose a drain designed for greater water flow, such as a silicone-type or gravity-type floor drain. For washing machine drainage, a floor drain specifically designed for washing machines should be selected.
In summary:it is recommended to use PVC adhesive or water cement mortar as bonding agents for floor drains, ensuring high strength and effective sealing.
