Many households choose to install mixed hot and cold water faucets, as this allows for easy switching between cold and hot water and provides convenience in use. However, problems such as water leakage from the faucet may occur. How should one resolve these issues? Today, I will address these concerns and hope to assist those in need.
I. What to do if there is water leakage at the switch of a hot and cold water faucet
1. Generally speaking, the mixed hot and cold water faucets sold on the market are usually pressure-operated. If there is a water leak at the switch, it may be due to an issue with the internal washer not sealing properly. You will need to disassemble the faucet to inspect the internal components by removing the washer. You can use a wrench to first detach the faucet.
2. If the faucet has been in use for a while and is difficult to disassemble, you may need to use some lubricant. After waiting a while, try turning it clockwise with the wrench; this might help loosen it. Next, remove the internal washer. If the washer is damaged, that is the root cause of the leakage. You will need to choose a washer of the same type and install it securely to resolve the water leakage issue at the faucet switch.
3. If the faucet is leaking, it may not necessarily be due to the washer; it could also be a damaged cartridge inside. In this case, you will need to replace the cartridge to fix the problem. Before replacing it, be sure to turn off the main water valve in your home to prevent extensive leakage.
II. How to choose a faucet
1. There are various types of faucets available on the market, with prices varying widely. When selecting a faucet, you should check the material. Common materials for faucets include alloys, brass, and ceramic. It is generally advisable not to buy faucets made of alloy, as this material can be harmful to the human body and has a shorter lifespan. It is best to choose stainless steel or ceramic faucets. In particular, ceramic faucets tend to have a longer lifespan and also provide a good decorative effect, with a reasonable price and high cost-effectiveness.
2. Additionally, check whether the faucet has an aerator. With one installed, you won't need to buy one later. An aerator not only helps save water but also prevents splashing.
The above content covers the issue of water leakage at the switch of a hot and cold water faucet; either replacing the washer or changing the cartridge is necessary to resolve it.
