In our family life, water is indispensable, and where there’s water, there are always pipes and faucets. However, after prolonged use, our faucets may encounter issues that lead to malfunctions. It’s important to replace a broken faucet promptly. During the process of replacing the faucet, we may encounter the situation where the faucet breaks off inside the pipe. What should we do then?
What are the methods for dealing with a broken faucet in the pipe?
1. If the break occurs inside the wall-mounted pipe, you can usually use a small saw blade to cut the remaining pieces of the faucet into smaller parts. Then, use a screwdriver and hammer to chisel from the outside in. Faucets are typically made of copper, which is hard, so be careful not to cut too deeply and damage the internal threading.
2. If the break occurs at the three-way joint, it’s relatively simple; you can directly use a hot melt tool to melt the pipe and then replace it with a new one.
3. You can use a broken screw extractor tool to screw into the pipe, secure it, and then slowly turn it counterclockwise with a wrench to remove it easily.
What are the steps to replace a faucet?
1. When replacing a faucet, you should prepare professional tools such as a wrench, pliers, and sealing tape.
2. Regardless of the method used to replace the faucet, do not apply too much force, as the faucet may have rusted and can easily break off inside the pipe. If it’s hard to unscrew, you can apply a little machine oil or vinegar at the base of the faucet to lubricate it, making it easier to unscrew.
3. When replacing the faucet, you can wrap some sealing tape around the faucet in a clockwise direction while tightening it. This helps to create a good seal and prevents any leaks. It’s best to choose a faucet made of solid copper, as it is more durable and less prone to rusting.
When selecting a faucet, you should look for materials such as titanium alloy, copper chrome-plated, stainless steel chrome-plated, aluminum alloy chrome-plated, and iron chrome-plated. Additionally, pay attention to the quality of the valve core, as a good quality valve core will have excellent durability and sealing properties, lasting for hundreds of thousands of uses.
