When we take a shower in the bathroom, water flows down and into the drain, and then through the drainage pipe. However, if the drain becomes clogged, it can lead to water accumulation issues. Here’s how to clear a clogged shower drain.

How to Unclog a Shower Drain

1. If the shower drain is clogged, it will affect drainage. This is often due to foreign objects in the drainage pipe, such as hair or paper debris, which are the most common culprits of clogging. You can start by removing the cover of the drain and pulling out any hair or debris from the pipe. For debris that is deep inside and cannot be reached, you can use a long stick or a plumbing snake to reach in and retrieve the foreign objects. After that, run some water to check if it drains quickly.

2. If the clog persists, it might be due to accumulated gunk on the pipe walls, which makes it easier for clogs to form. In this case, you can pour a solution of baking soda and white vinegar down the drain, or you can buy a commercial drain cleaner from the supermarket. After pouring it in, don't rush to flush it with water; wait a while to let it fully dissolve. Then pour some hot water down the drain to help dissolve the blockage and resolve the clogging issue.

What Kind of Drain to Choose for a Shower Room

1. It is not recommended to choose a standard type of drain for the shower room, as the shower area is continuously exposed to water, making it quite humid. Additionally, long hair and other items often wash down the drain while showering, which can easily cause clogs.

2. When shopping for a drain, pay attention to its sealing properties. There are self-sealing or water-sealing types available; it’s best to choose those with a dual effect. A complex structure often has a better sealing effect, preventing foreign objects from entering the drainage system.

3. Additionally, consider its odor-proofing capabilities. You might want to choose a T-shaped drain, which offers a faster drainage speed and also an excellent odor-proof effect.

In summary:it is important to avoid clogs in the shower drain; regular cleaning is necessary. While showering, avoid letting long hair go directly down the drain.
