How to Repair a Leak in Your Kitchen Sink Faucet

19/02/2025 | Hawkrown

The kitchen sink faucet and the bathroom shower faucet are probably the most frequently used faucets in our homes. Mechanical devices tend to develop issues with increased usage. The most common problem is faucet leaks, and many people are at a loss when their home faucets start to leak. Below, I will introduce several situations of faucet leaks and how to handle them.

1. Faucet drips even when turned off

When you finish using the faucet and turn the switch off, but find that the faucet still drips, even after trying to shut it off tightly, this is usually because the gasket inside the faucet is damaged and cannot properly seal the pipeline. You can use a wrench to take the faucet apart, remove the old gasket, and replace it with a new one. They can be purchased at hardware stores or online. Alternatively, you can cut a piece of waste plastic at home to the same size as the original gasket for temporary use.

2. Water seeps around the faucet valve core

This problem typically arises if too much force was used to close the faucet, causing it to become loose and leading to leaks. In this case, remove the faucet and reinstall it tightly. If it still feels loose, you can use glass glue to assist in securing it and sealing the leak.

3. Water seeps from the faucet bolt seams

Most leak issues, including dripping, are usually due to problems with the sealing gaskets. To resolve this, detach the faucet and repair or replace the sealing gaskets inside.

4. Water seeps at the faucet pipe connection

If the leak occurs at the connection point of the faucet pipe, it is often because the internal bolt cap has become loose or rusted over time. For this situation, if the bolt cap is loose, tighten it. If it is rusted, replace it with a new one or add additional sealing gaskets to solve the issue.

While a leaking faucet may not seem like a major problem, the constant dripping can be quite bothersome, and the water meter will keep ticking. With the current emphasis on water conservation, it’s advisable to address these issues promptly.

The above are some solutions to faucet leaks that I hope can help you effectively.
