If there is a problem with the faucet at home and we need to disassemble it, but we have no wrench at hand, we can't just unscrew the faucet by hand. Today, I will share some tips on how to easily remove it.

1. What to do if there's no wrench to unscrew the faucet

If you don't have a wrench, you can look for alternative tools, such as pliers. Grip the faucet with the pliers and apply some force, this way you can easily unscrew the water pipe.

During the unscrewing process, remember to close the main valve first. It’s also best to wear gloves to reduce friction. When loosening, don’t use too much force; first tighten the water pipe a bit in a clockwise direction, then loosen it counterclockwise.

2. What to do if the water pipe is rusted and won't unscrew

Some water pipes may have been used for a long time and have rusted. In this situation, it can be difficult to unscrew even with tools, and we shouldn’t use brute force. First, apply a few drops of machine oil to the joint of the water pipe for lubrication, or use a professional rust remover. Wait a little while for a chemical reaction to take place; once the rust is removed, unscrewing will be much easier.

If you still can’t unscrew it, check if something is stuck inside the faucet. Use a specialized broken wire extractor to insert into the faucet and then use the tool to grip and rotate a few times; it will come out easily. This method is very convenient and won't damage the internal components.

3. What to do if the faucet won’t tighten and is dripping

There’s a sealing washer inside the faucet, and if it keeps dripping, the washer may be damaged. You can unscrew the faucet to check if the washer is worn out, and then purchase a new one to replace it. You might need a screwdriver to remove the screws on the top before disassembly.

After removing the handle of the faucet, you’ll expose the internal valve core. Use pliers to unscrew the valve core, and you'll see the internal structure that includes a sealing ring and a washer. Replace them and then reassemble the faucet following the reverse order. Check to see if it still drips.

The above content provides various methods to unscrew a faucet without a wrench, but we should also check if the faucet has rusted. Removing the rust before unscrewing will make it much easier.
