The floor drain is one of the main drainage outlets, and it's common for it to emit unpleasant odors. So, what can be done to resolve the smell from the floor drain? Let's learn together.
How to resolve odor from the floor drain
1. Rinse the floor drain with water to wash away any debris inside, which helps eliminate the odor.
2. Pour a cleaning agent into the floor drain and then rinse with water to remove the smell.
3. Additionally, you can use a professional drain deodorizer or place tea bags or bamboo charcoal in the bathroom.
4. If the odor is too strong, you can block the drain with a damp cloth and remove it only when you need to drain water.
What to do if the floor drain is clogged
1. Manual Cleaning Method.
A clogged floor drain is usually caused by too much debris inside, so the first step is to remove the foreign objects. Open the drain cover and use pliers to reach into the drainpipe to take out the dirt.
2. Physical Dredging Method.
If the blockage is deeper, physical dredging will be necessary. You can use a toilet plunger aimed at the floor drain, applying force to create a siphon effect by pushing down and then pulling up repeatedly. After a few repetitions, the drain should be cleared.
3. Wooden Stick Dredging Method.
You can also use a wooden stick to clear the drain. Find a stick with a diameter similar to the drain pipe, pour some water into the drain, and quickly push the stick up and down. The debris will be dislodged by the pressure created.
4. Baking Soda Adhesion Method.
If the wooden stick doesn't clear the blockage, try using baking soda. Pour half a cup of baking soda into the drain followed by half a cup of white vinegar. Once they react, this should help remove any adhering blockage in the pipe.
5. Chemical Decomposition Method.
A common method is to use a pipe cleaning agent. Pour about 50 grams of the agent into the drain, followed by some water. After waiting for 30 minutes, flush it with a large amount of water.
In summary:above are the methods to resolve odor issues from floor drains. I'm sure you all understand now! It's very normal for floor drains to emit smells. To avoid such problems, make sure to regularly clean the floor drain.
