There are many types of floor drains, and they play a significant role not only in draining water but also in preventing odors. Next, let's introduce when to install a floor drain.
When to Install a Floor Drain
Floor drains should be installed when laying floor tiles. This way, the sealing of the floor drain will be better, effectively preventing leaks around the drain. Additionally, before installing the floor drain, it’s important to check for any blockages in the drainage pipe. Generally, the drainage pipe should be protected from debris such as sand and cement before placing it into the floor drain.
How to Prevent Blockages in the Floor Drain
1. You can cut old socks into pieces and stretch them over the floor drain. This way, hair can be collected in the sock, and when cleaning, you can simply throw away the sock along with the hair, effectively preventing hair from entering the floor drain and causing blockages.
2. Clean the dirt off the cover with a brush, scrubbing all reachable areas and rinsing with water. If there are blockages in the pipe itself, you can use a drain cleaner. This is effective against grease, hair, vegetable scraps, and tissues.
3. Place a hose in the floor drain, then block the drain opening with a towel. After opening the faucet, press down on the towel firmly to prevent any water from backing up. Repeat this process a few times to clear the drain.
4. Any objects that fall in are likely to get stuck at the bend of the pipe. You can fashion a scoop using a broom handle and a hammer to gradually extract them.
