A Simple Guide to Disassembling Your Kitchen Faucet Spout Handle

14/02/2025 | Hawkrown

It is inevitable to use faucets at home, and faucets play a critical role in our daily lives. There is a rotating handle inside the faucet, and if you want to replace it later, you need to disassemble this rotating handle. Here’s how to do it and what to do if it starts leaking.

1. How to disassemble the rotating handle of the kitchen faucet

First, you need to prepare the necessary tools, including a wrench. Make sure to turn off the water valve in your home in advance to prevent any issues like water pipe rupture and leaks during disassembly.

Next, use the wrench to separate the inlet pipe and the flexible hose. With your left hand holding the water pipe, use your right hand to rotate the handle with the wrench. This will allow you to separate the components.

After that, you will need to remove the fixed components surrounding the rotating handle, disassemble the faucet handle, and then take out the valve core. This will enable you to fully remove the faucet.

2. What to do if the rotating part of the faucet is leaking

The rotating part of both hot and cold water faucets is most prone to leaking, which is usually due to issues at the connection of the faucet’s aerator. This part is most likely to experience seepage problems, primarily because the nut has become loose. First, use a wrench to hold the rotating handle of the faucet, then use the wrench to grip the nut and rotate it clockwise until it tightens.

If tightening it does not resolve the leak, you may need to replace the internal nut, as it is possible that the washer inside has failed. Remove the rotating handle, then replace the washer with a matching one to control the leaking issue effectively.

If there is already damage at the connection point, go to a hardware store to purchase a new connector, and then follow the specific installation process to avoid future leaks.

In summary, to disassemble the rotating handle of the kitchen faucet, you will need a wrench. Hold one side with one hand while turning the handle counterclockwise with the other hand, applying enough force to remove the rotating handle successfully.
