Quick Tips for Unclogging Your Toilet at Home

10/02/2025 | Hawkrown

Toilet blockages can easily occur after prolonged use, but you can quickly clear a clogged toilet using the following three steps. Here’s a brief guide on how to do it.

How to Quickly Unclog a Toilet:

1、Preparation

Before unclogging the toilet, you can lay old newspapers around it to prevent any wastewater from splashing onto the floor. Since unclogging may produce unpleasant odors, it's a good idea to turn on the bathroom exhaust fan and open the windows and doors for ventilation. You'll also need to gather the necessary unclogging tools, like a plumber's snake and gloves.

2、Unclogging the Toilet

At the bottom of the plumber's snake, there is a screw you can loosen to pull out the snake spring. Aim the snake spring at the toilet's drain opening and slowly push it down. When you feel resistance, tighten the screw on the snake and turn the handle to push the spring through the blockage. Once the spring has cleared the obstruction, turn the handle left to pull the spring out. Repeat this process several times until the toilet is unclogged.

3、Cleaning Up

After successfully unclogging the toilet, rinse the snake spring and allow it to dry before storing it away. Make sure to also clean up the newspapers you laid down. If any wastewater splashed onto the tiles, mop the floor and wipe down the bathroom tiles. Finally, turn off the exhaust fan in the bathroom.

In summary:this is a simple guide on how to quickly unclog a toilet yourself. I hope this article provides you with useful references and assistance. You can also use a plunger or chemical drain cleaners, or a mixture of baking soda and vinegar for unclogging.
