Prevent Water Damage: Fixing a Leaking Swivel Faucet Easily

10/02/2025 | Hawkrown

In daily life, we need to use faucets, but due to frequent use, faucets are prone to leaking, especially at the swivel joint where the likelihood of leaks is relatively high. If the faucet's swivel joint starts to leak, what should we do?

The faucet is leaking at the swivel joint; what should I do?

1. First, try tightening the faucet. If it cannot be tightened, use a wrench to remove the faucet by turning it counterclockwise. Then, wrap plumber's tape around the threads in a clockwise direction for several turns.

2. Next, screw the faucet back in a clockwise direction and open the main valve to see if the leak persists.

3. If it still leaks, it’s possible that the internal washer has worn out and failed. In this case, we need to remove the old washer and replace it with a new one.

Now, what if the faucet has a low water flow?

In addition to leaks, faucets can also have low water flow, and we need to identify the issue to address it.

1. One possibility is that the current water pressure is low, which will result in reduced water flow when the faucet is opened. This issue can affect not only the faucet but also the showerhead, especially for residents on higher floors who might experience low pressure. Installing a water pressure booster pump on the water line can help stabilize the pressure and resolve the issue.

2. Another reason could be that the faucet or showerhead is clogged. You can detach the filter inside, soak it in a solution of baking soda and vinegar for about 10 minutes. After that, debris should float to the surface, indicating that it’s clean. Rinse it thoroughly and reinstall it to fix the clogging issue and increase the water flow.

The above content discusses how to address leaks at the swivel joint of a faucet and reasons for low water flow, along with solutions for both problems. For more information, you can follow the Hawkrown.com.
