Leaky Faucet? Expert Tips for Quick Fixes

06/02/2025 | Hawkrown

Many people do not understand what causes faucets at home to leak, nor do they know how to fix the issue. Today, I will share some tips on what to do if your home faucet is leaking.

1. What to do if the faucet at home is leaking

There are many reasons why a faucet might leak. If the leak is due to the faucet's outlet not closing properly, causing dripping, we need to replace the internal gasket of the faucet.

2. Use a corresponding screwdriver to remove the screws on both sides of the faucet. Then, rotate the faucet by hand to check the gasket inside. See if it has shifted or is damaged. If the gasket is aged, damaged, or has shifted, we should replace it promptly. If it is not damaged or aged but merely shifted, we can just reposition the gasket.

3. If the leak is from the base of the faucet, we might find that the O-ring at the bottom is damaged. First, turn off the water supply, and then turn the nut of the faucet counterclockwise. You can use a wrench for leverage during this process, but remember to wrap the nut with tape to prevent damaging the surface of the faucet.

4. After removing the faucet nut, lift the outlet to see the O-ring inside. If the O-ring is damaged, we will need to replace it. Finally, reassemble the faucet to fix the leak.

5. If the faucet is leaking because of a leaking cartridge, it might be due to excessive force applied during use, causing the faucet to loosen. In this case, simply reinstalling it should resolve the issue.

This is the information I compiled regarding what to do if your home faucet is leaking. I hope it helps you.
