Troubleshooting a Rusted Faucet: Quick Dismantling Methods

22/01/2025 | Hawkrown

If the faucet in your home has not been used for a long time and the surrounding environment is quite humid, it may rust and become stuck. If you encounter this issue, here are some quick methods for removal:

The quick method to remove a rusted faucet.

1. When a faucet shows signs of rust, it may become difficult to turn. In such cases, first close the main valve. Then try turning the faucet left and right a few times. However, if it is still stuck despite applying significant force, you'll need to remove the rust. You can use rust remover or an acidic solution, spray it on the rusted area, and wait a moment. Then, using an adjustable wrench, try to turn it counterclockwise; this might help loosen the faucet.

2. If that doesn't work, you can pour hot water from a kettle over the joint of the faucet and pipe to expand the metal, then try turning it again.

3. If you need to replace the faucet with a new one, use plumber's tape (also known as Teflon tape) wrapped around the new faucet's threads. Make sure to wrap it in the clockwise direction before installing it into the water pipe.

Choosing a Faucet

1. When choosing a faucet, consider the material to avoid rust over the years. Chrome-plated faucets with a metallic sheen are less prone to corrosion.

2. You might also consider painted faucets that have a very smooth surface and vibrant colors, resembling the look of a piano, which can appear quite upscale.

3. Some faucets utilize an orb process, which allows for colors like red or black to be applied, giving a more vintage feel and enhancing decorative effect.

4. Also, pay attention to the brand. Reputable brands generally have good quality, warranty periods, and reliable customer service.

In summary, if the quality of the chosen faucet is poor and coupled with a humid environment, it is likely to rust quickly. In such cases, effective methods will be needed to remove the faucet.
