Tips for Installing a Toilet with Misaligned Flange Distance

22/01/2025 | Hawkrown

Before installing a toilet, it is essential to measure the distance to avoid installation issues. What should you do if the toilet distance is incorrect? Let's take a look.

How to Install a Toilet If the Distance Is Incorrect:

If the toilet distance is incorrect, there are two installation methods. If the distance is too long, you can use an offset flange. You need to measure how far it needs to be shifted, cut the bend or extension pipe to the appropriate length, install it on the drainage outlet, and seal it properly with glue. Finally, assemble the offset flange. If the distance is too short, you can chip away the wall behind the toilet, creating a groove in the wall to embed the tank, thus shortening the installation distance.

How to Install a Toilet:

1、Check the Drainage Pipe

Before installing the toilet, check the drainage pipe for any debris, such as dirt, bricks, or waste paper. These materials can cause blockages if not cleared, leading to significant inconvenience in later use. Therefore, ensure that everything is cleaned thoroughly before proceeding with the installation.

2、Determine the Distance

It is crucial to measure the vertical distance from the center of the drainage pipe to the wall, which is known as the pit distance. This measurement determines whether the toilet can be installed. You can use the measured data to purchase the appropriate toilet.

3、Secure the Toilet

Align the toilet's drainage outlet with the floor drainage pipe and press the sealing ring tightly. Then, tighten the screws on the base to ensure the toilet is securely fixed. You can push down on the toilet; if it does not budge, it means it is securely in place.

4、Seal the Base

After securing the toilet, proper sealing is essential. In addition to using a sealing ring for the drainage outlet to prevent odors, apply silicone sealant around the base of the toilet to ensure a tight seal.

5、Debugging and Inspection

Once the toilet is installed, you also need to install the water valve and conduct an inspection to check if the inlet valve, outlet valve, and other components are functioning correctly.
