The installation of a toilet base requires the use of appropriate materials to ensure safe usage in the future. So, should you use silicone sealant or construction adhesive for the toilet base? Let’s take a look.

Should you use silicone sealant or construction adhesive for the toilet base:

Silicone sealant. Silicone sealant has excellent properties; it has strong adhesive capabilities and good waterproof performance, effectively preventing leaks during use. Moreover, silicone sealant has strong weather resistance and water resistance, making it advisable to use silicone sealant for the toilet base.

There are two common types of silicone sealant: neutral and acidic, which provide different adhesion effects. Neutral silicone has relatively weaker bonding strength and is commonly used in indoor decoration where sufficient adhesion is enough, and it does not cause corrosion. Acidic silicone, on the other hand, has stronger adhesion but is corrosive, so it is used in areas like the back of wooden trim.

What to pay attention to when using silicone sealant:

1、If there is a lot of moisture or dust on the surface at the seams, you should first treat it with a specialized solvent. Then use a dry cloth to clean off any remaining residue, ensuring the surface is sufficiently dry.

2、Use plastic tape to cover the area around the joint to ensure that the seal is complete and to avoid unnecessary issues that might affect future use.

3、Cut the nozzle of the silicone sealant at a 45-degree angle and install it on a caulking gun to begin work. Be careful to clean up any overflow of sealant promptly and smooth the surface with tools.

4、After application, silicone sealant will begin to cure approximately ten minutes later, and it will fully cure in about 24 hours. The specific curing time may vary depending on the ambient temperature.

In conclusion:this is an introduction to whether to use silicone sealant or construction adhesive for the toilet base, as well as precautions for using silicone sealant. Have you understood it? The base of the toilet should use silicone sealant, which provides good adhesion. However, remember to use neutral silicone sealant.
