How to Fix a 28 cm Toilet Rough-In: Essential Solutions

21/01/2025 | Hawkrown

When installing a toilet, it is crucial to measure the rough-in distance accurately; otherwise, improper installation or the inability to install may occur. If the rough-in distance of the toilet is 28 centimeters, let's explore how to remedy this situation.

Remedy for a 28 Centimeter Rough-in Distance:

A rough-in distance of 28 centimeters is only about 8 centimeters shorter than the standard toilet rough-in distance. You can remedy this by chiseling 8 centimeters into the back wall to allow for proper installation of the toilet.

Alternatively, you can use a toilet offset flange. If the rough-in distance is not significantly different, an offset flange can be used for installation. For a 28-centimeter rough-in, you can opt for a 10-centimeter offset flange. Install the bottom of the flange onto the drain opening, ensuring that the upper opening is oriented toward the farthest distance from the wall. Then, align and secure the toilet drain opening with the upper flange opening, making sure to seal it adequately.

Important Considerations for Toilet Installation:

1、Check if the installation position is level

The toilet should be installed on a level surface; therefore, check for levelness before beginning the installation. If the surface is not level enough, you can make adjustments to ensure it is level before starting the installation process.

2、Ensure proper sealing

If the toilet lacks proper sealing, there is a high risk of odors escaping, which can pose significant health risks and affect the bathroom environment. During installation, make sure to implement multiple sealing measures. First, when connecting the drain with a flange, apply a layer of sealing glue. After securing the base, apply weather-resistant sealing glue around the edges.

3、Check the quality of the toilet

Before installation, ensure the quality of the toilet. The glaze should be smooth, including the toilet base, inner wall, and the glazed section of the trap. If the glazing is insufficient, it can lead to issues like dirt accumulation, scaling, and clogging, which may cause significant inconvenience during subsequent use.
