The faucet may develop leaking issues after prolonged use. Here's how to disassemble a leaking faucet.
Fixing a Dripping Faucet: Common Causes and Solutions
1. Preparation: Usually, the issue arises from a damaged cartridge that needs to be replaced. Purchase a replacement cartridge of the same brand and specifications from the store. Additionally, gather tools such as a Phillips or flat screwdriver, an Allen wrench, needle-nose pliers, and a knife.
2. Remove the hot and cold water knobs: Before changing the cartridge, locate the water supply shut-off valve and turn it off to prevent water spray during the repair. Then, find the hot and cold water knob or plastic cap, and use the knife to pry it off. This will expose the screws underneath.
3. Remove the handle: Once the water knobs are off, check the shape of the screws inside. Use the appropriate screwdriver to remove the screws, and then you can lift off the faucet handle.
4. Remove the cartridge: After removing the handle, you will find the cartridge inside. If the cartridge has a protective outer cover, take it off first. Next, you’ll see the retaining clips that hold the cartridge in place. Typically, there are four prongs; use the needle-nose pliers to grip two of the clips and rotate them clockwise to remove the retaining clip.
5. Installation: Once the clips are removed, take out the damaged cartridge and replace it with a new one. Follow the previous steps in reverse order to reassemble the faucet. Finally, check for leaks, and if everything is fine, secure the handle and replace the plastic cap for the hot and cold water knobs.
Precautions for using the faucet:
1. When using the faucet, turn the handle gently without applying too much force. Ensure to close it with light pressure, enough to prevent leaks.
2. If the faucet has an aerator, regularly clean out debris. Detach it periodically for rinsing, and ensure the hose is naturally straight to prevent kinks or breaks.
In summary, the methods for repairing a leaking faucet involve replacing the damaged cartridge. Following the outlined steps will help resolve the issue and prevent further damage. I hope this helps everyone.
