A DIY Guide to Taking Apart the Faucet Under Your Sink

If the faucet of the kitchen sink is leaking, it can be disassembled for repair or replacement. Here’s how to disassemble it:

I. How to Disassemble the Sink Faucet from Below

1. To start disassembling the faucet, first close the main valve. There will be a red and blue dot below the handle; pry it open with your hand to reveal a small opening. Inside, you'll find a fixed screw; take note if it's a Phillips or flat-head screw and prepare a corresponding screwdriver to loosen it.

2. Once you’ve loosened that screw, you can remove the handle of the faucet. You will then see a large nut which needs to be loosened with a wrench in order to unscrew the valve core. Check if the washer has worn out; if so, you can replace it with a new washer, or you can directly replace the entire valve core. Alternatively, you can clean the valve core and reinstall it.

II. Common Faucet Issues and Repair Methods

1. When turning on the faucet, you might notice a reduction in water flow or see water splintering. This could be due to a clogged aerator or filter inside the faucet. You can disassemble the filter inside the faucet for cleaning. Regular maintenance, like cleaning, can help prevent reduced water flow.

2. For cleaning, prepare a solution of baking soda and white vinegar mixed with a little water. Remove the faucet’s filter and soak it in the solution; this will effectively clean it.

3. Another common issue is noise when opening the faucet, which could be because of high water pressure, loose hot and cold water pipes, or an obstruction in the inlet pipe causing rapid changes in water pressure. To resolve this, you can reduce the flow on the angle valve and lower the water supply pressure.

In summary, the above details how to disassemble the sink faucet, along with common faucet issues and their respective repair methods
