Many old houses have squat toilets installed, but they may not be convenient for elderly family members. Therefore, homeowners may want to replace the squat toilet with a sitting toilet. The process of replacing a squat toilet with a sitting toilet can be divided into five steps. Here is a brief introduction to each step.

How to Install a Toilet: A Step-by-Step Guide for Replacing a Squat Toilet:

1、Remove the squat toilet

Before removing the squat toilet, ensure that the water valve for the toilet is turned off. Press the flush button to drain the water from the tank. Next, use a rag to block the drainage hole of the squat toilet, and then use a hammer to break the squat toilet into pieces. After breaking it, clean up the debris on the floor. Finally, remove the water tank by disconnecting the inlet hose and lifting the tank off. Use a cutting machine to cut off the inlet pipe of the squat toilet.

2、Floor treatment

The drainage pipe for the squat toilet is usually quite short, so we might need to extend it. Use an electric hammer to break off the cement mortar around the drainage pipe, and wipe the surface of the drainage pipe with a cloth. Apply glue to secure the drainage fitting to the floor drainage pipe. Using the same method, connect the fitting to the new drainage pipe. After extending the drainage pipe, re-tile the floor. The inlet pipe for the squat toilet can be sealed off using silicone, plugs, or other materials.

3、Purchase a toilet

Before purchasing a toilet, measure the distance between the bolts on the toilet to ensure you buy the correct size. Once the toilet is delivered, unwrap it and check for any damages or missing parts.

4、Install the toilet

Before installing the toilet, clean the floor thoroughly. Use a measuring tape to mark a center cross line where the toilet bowl will be located. Align the toilet's drainage outlet with the floor drainage pipe and mark the toilet's outline with a marker. Next, install the wax seal on the drainage outlet, then apply a ring of toilet-specific adhesive around the marked outline on the floor. Carefully place the toilet onto the adhesive while ensuring the drainage outlet is aligned. Once in place, apply a ring of silicone around the base of the toilet for sealing.

5、Install accessories

Install the flush valve and inlet valve inside the tank, and adjust the length of the toilet seat screw as necessary. After placing the toilet seat onto the mounting hardware, secure it in place. Then, connect the inlet hose to the tank's inlet. Next, place the cover over the mounting holes and secure it with screws. Finally, place the decorative cover over the mounting hardware and reattach the toilet seat.
