Faucets can easily develop leaks after prolonged use, and the steps for repairing a leaking faucet can be simply divided into four steps. Below, I will briefly introduce the specific steps.
1. Turn Off the Faucet Valves
Generally, the faucet valves are located underneath the sink. You should turn the hot and cold water valves to the right to close them. If there are no individual faucet valves, you can turn off your home’s main water supply valve.
2. Disassemble the Faucet Body
Loosen the fastening nuts of the hot and cold water pipes and disconnect them from the valves. Next, unscrew the fastening nut located underneath the faucet and pull the faucet upward from the countertop. Remove the sealing washer; if it shows signs of wear, you can replace it with a new one.
3. Disassemble the Faucet Cartridge
Use pliers to remove the plastic cover on top of the faucet handle, where you will find a securing screw. Use a screwdriver to loosen and remove the handle. If the screw is hard to unscrew, you can apply a few drops of lubricating oil for easier manipulation. Use pliers to turn and remove the locking nut, then take out the faucet cartridge and remove the sealing ring. If the ring or cartridge is worn or faulty, you can replace them with new ones.
4. Reinstall the Faucet
After replacing all the damaged parts of the faucet, you can reinstall it. Place the sealing ring on the cartridge, then install the cartridge back into the faucet body. Next, install the locking nut, faucet handle, and plastic cover. Once the faucet body is reassembled, wrap some sealing tape around the threads, fit the sealing washer, and insert it into the installation hole. Finally, tighten the fastening nut and reconnect the hot and cold water pipes to the valves. Turn on the faucet to check for any leaks.
In summary, this is a brief overview of how to repair a leaking faucet. I hope that after reading this article, you will have a better understanding of faucet maintenance. For more related information, feel free to continue following our updates on the home improvement website.
