How to Easily Remove Adhesive from a Fixed Toilet

14/01/2025 | Hawkrown

When installing a toilet, a sealant is typically used to secure and seal around the base. Let's take a look at how to remove the adhesive that secures the toilet.

How to Remove the Adhesive:

You can drop some essential oil or turpentine on the adhesive and wait for a while; the adhesive will soften, making it easier to peel or rub off. If there are still stubborn bits left, you can scrape them off with a blade.

Another method is to use a hairdryer on a hot setting. Blow hot air on the adhesive area for a few minutes until it softens. Once you create a small opening, you can peel it off while continuing to blow hot air, working slowly until the adhesive is fully removed.

How to Secure the Toilet:

1、Using Fixing Holes

First, determine the installation position of the toilet and mark the fixing points with a pen, ensuring to avoid water pipes. Use a power drill to make holes at the marked points; the depth of the holes must be above the waterproof layer to prevent damaging it, which helps avoid subsequent leaks and related issues.

Clean the drilled holes, insert expansion plugs and bolts, then install the toilet, making sure it fits over the bolts. Place the nuts and tighten them, paying attention to adjust the level to ensure a flat base. This will avoid potential leaks caused by uneven surfaces. Finally, apply a ring of white cement around the bottom for decoration.

2、Using Silicone Sealant

Before using silicone sealant, ensure the toilet is installed correctly and does not wobble significantly. Clean the surrounding area of the base to remove any moisture and impurities. Use a caulking gun to apply mildew-resistant silicone sealant at the junction between the base and the floor. Since tiles on the floor are often uneven, apply the sealant multiple times, particularly at the seams, to prevent leaks and ensure effective bonding.
