Some homeowners have discovered that their bathroom faucets may experience leakage issues. The methods to repair a leaking bathroom faucet can be divided into four steps. Below, I will introduce the specific steps.
1. Preparation
The bathroom faucet is controlled by a water valve. We need to locate the faucet's shut-off valve and turn it off. If there is no individual shut-off valve, we will need to turn off the main water valve in the house. While repairing the faucet, we should also prepare the necessary materials and tools, such as a new ceramic cartridge, a screwdriver, an adjustable wrench, and so on.
2. Remove the Faucet Handle
Usually, there is a plastic label indicating hot and cold water located below the faucet handle. We can pry off this label to reveal the screw that secures the handle. Next, we insert the screwdriver into the hot/cold water hole and turn the securing screw to the left. Finally, we hold the faucet handle with one hand and pull it upward while using the other hand to tap the screwdriver handle upward against the faucet to remove the handle.
3. Replace the Ceramic Cartridge
After removing the faucet handle, we can see the mesh cover. We can turn the mesh cover to the left to take it off. Underneath the mesh cover is a hexagonal cap, which secures the ceramic cartridge. We will use the wrench to grip the hexagonal cap and turn it to remove it. At this point, we can take out the worn ceramic cartridge and place the new ceramic cartridge in. Then, we refit the hexagonal cap and tighten it.
4. Reassemble the Faucet
We will screw the end cap of the faucet back onto the main body, then place the faucet handle back in position and tighten the securing screw. After that, we insert the hot/cold label back into its hole below the faucet. Finally, we turn on the faucet to check whether it still leaks.
In summary, regarding what to do if a bathroom faucet switch is leaking, I've briefly introduced it here. I hope that after reading this article, everyone can have an understanding of how to repair leaking faucet switches. Faucet leakage may also be due to a faulty sealing washer or improper installation of the faucet, so it’s important to address the specific cause of the leak for proper repair.
