Many families now install double-switch faucets, which are very convenient because hot and cold water can be dispensed simultaneously. If a double-switch faucet is leaking, let's learn how to repair it.
How to Fix a Leaking Double-Switch Faucet
Leaks are often caused by worn internal valve cores or insufficient flexibility of the rubber seals. To start, use a small knife or a flathead screwdriver to pry open the cover in the middle of the handle. Then, unscrew the fixing screw inside, and use an adjustable wrench to tighten the valve core. Tighten everything and check for leaks. If it still leaks, you’ll need to disassemble the entire valve core. Remove the rubber seal at the bottom, find a piece of thin rubber, and cut it into a circle of the same size. Cut out the middle to fit over the valve core, reinstall the seal, and finally reassemble the faucet. If the valve core is damaged, you must replace it with a valve core of the same model or replace the faucet.
How to Maintain a Faucet
1. Choose Ceramic and Copper Valve Cores: When purchasing a faucet, be sure to check its material. High-end faucets typically have valve cores made from hard ceramic and copper bodies. They offer a comfortable and smooth feel and can be operated repeatedly. Low-end faucets often use steel ball valves, and the rubber rings inside these steel valves can easily wear out and deteriorate over time, leading to leaks.
2. Normally, when using a faucet, turn it on gently. It is not recommended to use excessive force. Just twist it lightly according to the direction of operation. After using a stainless steel faucet, be sure to wipe it clean to prevent rust and maintain its shine. If one faucet has a slow flow while others have normal water pressure, then the screen at the faucet outlet may need to be removed and cleaned. Generally, this will restore the flow to normal.
3. Additionally, before installing and renovating the faucet, try to wash out any sand from the water supply pipes with clean water, and then connect the water supply pipe to the faucet. This will prevent sand and other debris from entering, which could damage the faucet valve core and cause leaks.
