How to Fix a Leaky Shower Mixer Valve: A Step-by-Step Guide

25/12/2024 | Hawkrown

When a house is newly renovated, all fixtures are typically new, so they usually don’t have any issues. However, after some time of use, minor problems can arise. One well-known bathroom fixture that we use daily during showers is the shower mixer tap, which sometimes experiences leaks. What should we do in such cases? Here, I’ll introduce some related content for you to take a look at.

What to do if the shower mixer tap leaks

1. Remove the handle

Inside the mixer tap, there is a screw. Use a long, thin screwdriver to unscrew and remove it, which allows you to take off the handle of the mixer tap.

2. Remove the white plastic component

Next, take out the white plastic piece inside, and remove the stainless steel sleeve and the metal ring. Then, use a tool to take out the internal white plastic parts.

3. Test for leaks

The shower mixer tap has small round holes on it. First, try wrapping waterproof tape around the connection point, then reinstall all the components and see if it still leaks.

4. If it continues to leak

If it still leaks, turn off the water valve and drain the water from the pipes. This issue might be due to problems with the connections inside the wall, or it could be a problem with the shower mixer tap itself, so you should check each part carefully.

5. Adjust the valves

Remove the shower head to allow air to enter. Adjust the valves for the inlet and outlet water by pulling them out halfway, without removing them completely.

6. Let it run for about half an hour in this semi-pulled state

With the valves adjusted halfway, water should flow continuously. At first, you might hear sounds from the pipes in the wall, and after continuously running for about thirty minutes, you should see a steady stream of water coming out. After that, reinstall the components, and it should no longer leak.

In conclusion:the above is what I wanted to share regarding how to handle leaks from the shower mixer tap. I hope this can help some of you in need. If you’d like to learn more, please continue to follow our website.
