How to Choose the Right Sealant for Toilet-Mounting to the Floor

24/12/2024 | Hawkrown

When installing a toilet, it is essential to ensure proper sealing between the toilet and the floor. Let's take a look at what sealant is suitable for this purpose.

一、What Sealant to Use for Toilet and Floor Sealing

1、Glass Sealant

The glass sealants available on the market often have mold-resistant and weatherproof (high and low temperature resistant) properties. When purchasing, you can choose a mold-resistant glass sealant; both acidic and neutral options are available. Acidic glass sealant has a strong adhesion, but it can be corrosive to certain materials, has good water resistance, and is suitable for limited materials. However, it has a strong odor and is relatively expensive. On the other hand, neutral glass sealant is compatible with various materials such as marble, metal, and glass, has a mild odor, but weaker adhesion.

2、White Cement

White cement provides a strong bond and good sealing but may not be aesthetically pleasing and is difficult to remove.

3、Silicone Glue

This type of glue offers excellent elasticity and strength, is less prone to cracking, and provides good sealing, effectively blocking any overflow of wastewater.

二、Precautions When Applying Glass Sealant

1、Before applying the glass sealant, use a hairdryer to dry the joint surfaces thoroughly and clean any dust or dirt with a towel. Make sure the surfaces to be joined are clean and dry for better adhesion and to achieve optimal waterproofing and odor-proofing.

2、During the toilet installation, it is essential to apply a layer of sealant on the bottom of the toilet before placing the toilet flange. This preparation is crucial; it is not enough just to place the toilet on the tiles and apply a bead of sealant around it.

3、Never use traditional cement for sealing on a tiled floor; use glass sealant instead. Otherwise, cracks or other issues may occur at the edges of the toilet later on. Glass sealant performs well on tiled surfaces.

4、Avoid purchasing cheap glass sealant; it is recommended to invest in well-known brands that are waterproof and mold-resistant. Otherwise, the edges of the toilet may develop mold over time. After applying the sealant at the bottom of the toilet, do not use it immediately; it is advisable to wait until the sealant has cured, typically around 48 hours, before using the toilet.

Conclusion:This article has provided information about what sealant to use for sealing between a toilet and the floor. We hope it is helpful to everyone.
