Are Toilets and Floor Drains Connected to the Same Pipe?

Can the drainage pipes of the bathroom be modified as needed in a sunken bathroom? Are the toilet and floor drain connected to the same pipe? Here’s a brief introduction.

一、Are the toilet and floor drain connected to the same pipe?

They use the same drainage pipe, but the toilet and floor drain drainage pipes cannot be directly connected. The toilet drain and the floor drain share the same drainage pipe but have different branches. Generally, the diameter of the toilet sewage pipe is 110mm, while that of the floor drain sewage pipe is typically 50 or 75mm. Once the wastewater from the toilet and floor drain enters the same pipe, it ultimately flows into the main drainage pipe.

二、What should be noted during the construction of the bathroom drainage pipes?

1、When constructing the bathroom drainage pipes, it is important to plan the location of the pipes based on the positions of the sanitary fixtures. The appropriate specifications of the drainage pipes should be selected; for instance, the toilet drainage pipe should use a 110mm pipe, and the floor drain and washbasin drainage pipes typically use 75mm pipes. If the diameter of the drainage pipes is too small, it will affect drainage efficiency.

2、During the layout of the drainage construction, do not drill holes in the toilet drainage pipe to facilitate secondary drainage. Although this method may be more convenient, it can lead to odor issues in the future. The toilet drainage pipe and other drainage pipes, like floor drains, should not be too close together; they should be at least 50cm apart to prevent odors from leaking into the floor drains.

3、When installing the floor drain or washbasin drainage pipes, it is necessary to install a water seal trap to prevent odors from escaping through the pipes. When connecting and securing the drainage pipes, minimize the use of 90-degree elbows. Instead of using a 90-degree elbow, two 45-degree elbows should be used for better drainage efficiency. The installed drainage pipes should maintain a certain slope; a gradient of over 5% is recommended to facilitate wastewater discharge.

In summary:this is a brief introduction to whether the toilet and floor drain are connected to the same pipe in a bathroom. I hope this article provides you with helpful information. For more related insights, please continue to follow our updates.
