Shower devices, such as shower handles, are prone to leaking issues, with leaks often caused by damaged cartridges. Here are three simple steps to repair a leaking shower handle.

1. Turn Off the Water Valve

If the water valve is a handwheel type, you can close it by turning it to the left. If the water valve is a handle type, turn the valve stem 90 degrees until it is perpendicular to the water pipe to close it. Make sure to turn off the water valve before starting repairs to prevent any leaks during the process.

2. Remove the Handle

Behind the shower handle, you will find a screw hole. Use a screwdriver to loosen and remove the fixing screw for the shower handle, and then take off the handle. Some shower handles may have a decorative cap that needs to be removed to access the fixing screw. You can pry off the decorative cap using a flathead screwdriver positioned at the seam of the cap. During the process of removing the shower handle, keep the fixing screw safe and do not place it randomly to avoid losing it.

3. Replace the Leaking Cartridge

Once you have removed the shower handle, you will see the cartridge. Take out the cartridge. Before installing the new cartridge, rinse the handle with water to clean it, and wipe it with a dry cloth to ensure there is no dust or debris. Next, install the new cartridge. When installing, align the valve's positioning pin with the positioning hole of the shower handle. After the shower cartridge is properly installed, replace the handle and secure it with the screw. Finally, put the decorative cap back on.
