Toilets are one of the facilities we use frequently in our daily lives. However, sometimes we may find that the toilet tank keeps running. So, how can we fix a toilet that keeps running?
How to Fix a Toilet That Keeps Running
1、Failed Water Seal:
The toilet's drainage system includes a U-shaped water seal, which helps block bad odors and pests. If the water seal fails, it can cause the toilet to keep running.
Solution: Check the Water Seal
First, shut off the water supply valve and empty the tank. Then, open the cover of the toilet base and check if the water seal is worn or damaged. If there’s an issue, replace it with a new water seal to fix the running toilet.
2、Float Ball Failure:
The float ball in the toilet tank is an important device that controls the water supply. When the water level in the tank exceeds a certain height, the float ball rises and closes the water inlet. If the float ball fails, it will be unable to shut off the inlet, leading to continuous running.
Solution: Check the Float Ball
Open the tank lid and observe if the float ball is functioning normally. If the float ball is stuck or damaged, it may cause the toilet to run continuously. You will need to replace the float ball to resolve the issue.
3、Damaged Water Inlet Valve:
The water inlet valve controls the flow of water into the toilet tank. If it is damaged or stuck, it can prevent the tank from stopping water flow, causing the toilet to run.
Solution: Check the Water Inlet Valve
Shut off the water supply valve and check the inlet valve for damage or blockages. If any issues are found, clean the valve or replace it with a new one to fix the running toilet problem.
4、Internal Leaks in the Tank:
The rubber gaskets and seals inside the toilet tank may become old or cracked, leading to internal leaks and causing the toilet to run.
Solution: Check the Internal Rubber Seals and Gaskets
If you notice leaking inside the tank, inspect the rubber seals and gaskets for wear or damage. If necessary, replace them with new seals and gaskets to fix the running toilet.
5、Water Pump Issues in the Tank:
If the toilet has a tank equipped with a water pump function, a malfunction or blockage in the pump can lead to continuous water flow.
Solution: Check the Water Pump
If your toilet features a tank with a water pump, check if the pump is operating correctly. If there is a blockage or fault, clean or repair it. If it cannot be repaired, a new pump will need to be installed.
Conclusion:
This is a brief introduction on how to fix a toilet that keeps running. A continuously running toilet not only wastes water but also increases household water bills, so it is essential to address this issue promptly. When repairing a running toilet, it is important to carefully check each part, identify the root of the problem, and take appropriate measures to fix it. By following the right procedures, we can successfully resolve the running toilet issue and ensure efficient water use in our homes.
